It’s common to feel a little nervous before a medical test, especially if it’s your first time. At Ali Diagnostic Clinic, we believe that understanding your procedure can make all the difference. An ultrasound scan is a safe, painless, and highly effective way for doctors to look inside your body.
This guide will walk you through the entire process, so you know exactly what to expect during your ultrasound scan at our Haripur clinic.
An ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create live images of the inside of your body. Unlike X-rays, it uses no radiation, making it completely safe. The sound waves bounce off your internal organs and tissues, and a computer then translates these echoes into a clear image that our expert doctors can interpret.
Preparation is key to getting the most accurate results from your ultrasound. Your doctor will provide specific instructions, but here are some general tips:
For Abdominal Scans: You may be asked to fast for 6-8 hours beforehand to ensure your stomach and gallbladder are empty.
For Pelvic or Bladder Scans: You might need to drink several glasses of water to have a full bladder. This helps us get a clearer image of your pelvic organs.
Wear Comfortable Clothing: Choose loose, comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the area being scanned.
When you arrive, a trained technician or doctor will guide you to a comfortable examination room. You will lie on a table, and a special gel will be applied to the area of your body being scanned. This gel helps the sound waves travel easily.
The technician will then gently press a small handheld device called a transducer against your skin. You will feel a slight pressure, but the procedure is completely painless. The images will appear on a nearby monitor. The scan usually takes around 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being examined.
Once the scan is complete, the technician will wipe the gel off your skin. You are free to leave and go about your day immediately. The images from your scan will be carefully reviewed by one of our specialist doctors.
We pride ourselves on providing prompt and accurate diagnostic results. We will provide a comprehensive report for you and your referring doctor, ensuring you have the information you need for your next steps.
